Psychic medium and author Kim Lawler joins The Author’s Mic™ to talk about grief, spiritual awakening, and her book As We Sage—a guide for women over 50 reclaiming spirit, joy, and magic in turbulent times.
What happens when grief, global chaos, and a loss of faith collide with a deep spiritual calling?
On this episode of The Author’s Mic™, I sit down with Kim Lawler — a psychic medium, retired nurse, and author of As We Sage: A Woman’s Guide to Reclaiming Spirit, Wisdom, Joy, and Magic Beyond Midlife in Turbulent Times.
Her story starts in a place that’s all too familiar:
One day, Kim was looking at a family photo where her brother was missing, and she felt an overwhelming wave of love — a love that felt different. In that moment, she knew her loved ones were with her.
That moment changed everything.
Before her spiritual awakening, Kim describes herself as feeling almost like an atheist. The world felt dark, chaotic, and unfair.
But that one energetic moment of connection led her to:
From there, she dove into meditation and intuitive work. Slowly, the depression lifted. The anxiety eased. The anger and hate she felt toward the world began to dissolve.
What replaced it?
A powerful, grounded understanding that love is the way forward — for healing ourselves and the world around us.
Kim spent 34 years as a nurse. Teaching, supporting, and guiding people was already woven into who she was.
So when she began receiving intuitive “downloads” about an oracle deck and then a book, she recognized it as a calling.
“Having been a nurse, I knew what a calling was. This felt like: ‘Do it. Just do it.’”
Her book, As We Sage, is written especially for women beyond midlife — roughly age 50 and up — who are struggling with:
“As we sage” has multiple meanings in Kim’s world:
The full subtitle says it all:
A Woman’s Guide to Reclaiming Spirit, Wisdom, Joy, and Magic Beyond Midlife in Turbulent Times.
This isn’t just theory. It’s a guidebook for women who feel stuck, heavy, or disconnected from Spirit — and are looking for a way back to themselves.
Yes — but not the kind that just tells you what to do.
Kim goes beyond “you should…” advice. In one of the final chapters, she walks readers through how she fits her spiritual practices into daily life.
Because that’s the real question most of us have:
“You’re telling me to meditate, move, pray, write, connect… but how do I fit all of that into an actual day?”
Kim breaks down how she:
The goal isn’t perfection. The goal is support.
One of my favorite parts of our conversation is how openly Kim talks about co-creating her book with Spirit.
Before she wrote, she would:
She doesn’t see writing as a solo act anymore. Everything she creates now is a partnership with Spirit — which feels fitting for a book about reclaiming wisdom and magic later in life.
I asked Kim what advice she’d give to a woman past midlife who feels lost, heavy, or overwhelmed — the kind of woman she wrote this book for.
Here’s what she shared:
As Kim says, the world needs more love right now— not more hate.
